A sense of social responsibility is an integral part of a Mater Dei education. All Mater Dei students are required to perform twenty (20) hours of community service per year as a pre-requisite for graduation.

Encouraged to share their talents and time with others, Mater Dei’s students and faculty are actively involved with school and community service projects. Faith is put into action through student visits to soup kitchens to assist the homeless; their involvement with community hospitals, nursing homes, student tutoring, and children; and their leadership in the Diocesan Mission Outreach Program. Christian Service and Peer Counseling programs heighten our students’ awareness of others.

Participation in other community service projects occurs throughout the year: the Community Service Club volunteers at the Clean Ocean Action Beach Clean-Up at Sandy Hook; the National Honor Society tutors children at St. Mary Elementary School; and our Student Advisory Board collects donations of Christmas toys, as well as prepares Thanksgiving baskets and Easter baskets, for the needy.
